Support measures


One of the most commonly used online tools on the Health Design Center website is the Knowledge Base (KR), a searchable and user-friendly medical design resource library. KR stems from frequent requests received by our research team for help finding reliable research citations on various topics. For each request, a member of our team will search our internal research database and provide an appropriate journal citation list. By cooperating with the American Institute of Architects School of Healthy Architecture, the Facility Guidelines Association, and the American Society of Healthcare Engineers, we are able to build a free, searchable online database that is open to everyone.

Over the years, through feedback from partners and users, we have added some features and resources to continue to make this repository more valuable and research more accessible. Some of these features include: Personal online filing cabinets, used to save relevant research for quick reference in the future; Clickable links to link references to their original source links; Operations that help users quickly learn to navigate and get the most benefit from search Video tutorials; links to the “Research Matters” blog series to help readers determine why specific research is relevant to our industry; and Key Point Summary (KPS), which distills complex research into a more digestible summary.

Two new and more visual features were added last year: a slideshow, which is a short video of five minutes or less, focused on what we can learn from a particular study and why research is important, and a project called “Lede “” function, it refines the research for who, what, when, where, why and how to use the “brief paragraph” or “nutgraph” function to summarize the basic facts of the research. Adding these tools is useful for visual learners or people who might want to master some interesting facts in a short period of time.

Currently, KP has nearly 5,300 research citations, and the center’s research team regularly adds new references. To help users quickly find what they need, keywords can be used to search for citations or sort by paper type, design category, achievement category, and/or publication year.

Nearly 850 of these citations have been reviewed by a member of the center’s research team with the support of Research and Design Contact, Design research publications and websites, and a member of the Healthcare Design Nursing Institute. They also have a corresponding KPS, which outlines the research goals, methods and results. If KPS seems relevant, then readers can click on the source link to find the original source of the study.

Our research team will send an email called “The Snap” every other month, which will check the research trend of hot topics and detail all the latest entries added to KR in the past two months and the summary/summary Link. Finding relevant research that may influence your decision can be daunting at first, but the center is committed to creating tools and resources that not only make research easier to find, but also make it workable.
