At the virtual launch event at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in 2021, Benelli introduced the Benelli Dong electric scooter. Dong has a rather unique style, is the latest electric vehicle technology, and has a strong interest in Malaysia’s ASEAN neighbors.
Benelli Dong’s styling and “floating” back end attracted the attention of the public. Dong is specially designed for the urban environment. It can accommodate two seats and is equipped with single-vibration suspensions at the front and rear.
A 1.2 kW electric motor mounted on the rear wheel hub is powered by a pluggable 1.56 kWh battery that can be removed for charging. In this configuration, Dong can travel 60 km on a single charge, with a maximum speed of 45 km/h.
Although it doesn’t store anything on the sea floor like the norms for urban scooters, Dong does come with a relatively wide floor and there are hook-up points for light cargo. Standard equipment on Benelli Dong includes a digital LCD meter and all LED lights, including a tail light unit with integrated turn signal lights.
Benelli Dong rolled a 10-inch wheel with a speaker that would emit a warning sound to alert pedestrians. The price of Benelli Dong or when it will enter the Indonesian market is still inconclusive.
